Openings and passageways...

Yesterday morning we all drove north to drop Lauren at Almede for a choral rehearsal. Merel and I went on to Amersfoort, south-west of Amsterdam. We wandered the narrow streets of the old town where the Muurhuizen (wall houses) were build on the site of the old defence ring. When I looked back over my photos I noticed how many featured openings of one sort or another...

We took a boat trip on the canals - not a glitzy rip-off but a thoughtful perspective organised entirely by volunteers who clearly love their town. Before the canal trip we had coffee and a shared sandwich in a little courtyard overlooking the canal.

The canal trip took us through some narrow passageways...

 ...via magnificent buildings...

...and past some decidedly quirky sculptures...

This made me smile...
